This is Japan's longest-running ranking of hotels and traditional ryokan.
There are approximately 40,000 ryokan across Japan.
Once a year, we publish the rankings based on a survey of approximately 14,000 travel agencies throughout Japan.
In recent years, overseas travel agencies have also begun offering tours that include stays at properties featured in the Top 100 Ryokan.
These tours introduce travelers from around the world to the distinctive appeal of hot-spring ryokan, offering an experience different from city hotels in Tokyo, Osaka, and elsewhere.
